The school was established on 10 January 1919. In 2012, the school was given the name Viktoras Petkus. Viktoras Petkus was a Lithuanian political activist and dissident, a founding member of the Lithuanian Helsinki Group. In September 2021, the structure of the school was restructured, changing its type from a basic school to a progymnasium.
Students are educated by highly qualified teachers. Pupils with special needs are assisted by a speech therapist, a psychologist, a social educator and teaching assistants. Pupil health care is provided by a public health specialist.
The Progymnasium implements projects promoting creativity, ecology and a healthy lifestyle:
„Healthy I, healthy you—healthy we“, „Green school“, „eTwinning“, „ The young naturalist“, „Explore the native land“, „On the paths of the homeland“, „Annual calendar“. Annual school newspaper. The programs "Time Together" and "Crossroads of Adolescence", which develop social and emotional competencies, are implemented.
Renovated modern library, reading room, new computer classroom. We enjoy a beautiful, modern assembly hall.
The Progymnasium has 2 Extended Working Day groups, about 30 non-formal education programms. They are attended by students who like to sing, dance, draw, play sports, explore nature, travel, create, collaborate, make friends in other countries. Daytime children's summer camps are organized every year.
We are happy and proud of our students' achievements in district and republic competitions, olympiads, sports competitions.
